As health care professionals work to improve patient safety and
reduce medical errors, The Medical Letter released its latest update
of the Adverse Drug Interactions Program. Updated every six months,
the Adverse Drug Interactions Program allows users to search for
interactions between two and up to 50 prescription and over-the-counter
drugs (including herbal compounds). It allows health care professionals
to list each drug their patient is taking and then view the possible
interactions on the screen as well as view reference citations pertinent
to the interaction.
"The
Medical Letter's Adverse Drug Interactions Program is a valuable
resource to health care professionals who want unbiased, reliable
and timely information on drug interactions," said deputy editor
Gianna Zuccotti, M.D., M.P.H. "Now that we license the database
from the Adverse Interactions Program to software developers, including
those who develop Electronic Medical Records software, health care
professionals can seamlessly access Medical Letter interactions
data from within an Electronic Medical Records."
The
Medical Letter's staff and panel of experts monitor the medical
literature for newly reported, well-documented interactions and
identify the ones likely to be important clinically. This unique
resource is available in a desktop version for Windows and Macintosh
and in handheld versions for the Palm OS and Windows CE (by Skyscape).
The database is also available for licensing.
